How to implement 'Allowed Sites' in Adsense?

Continued from How to get banned without even knowing about it?

This is the second part of a 3-part long series on preventing getting banned from Adsense even without knowing about it. In case you haven’t read the first part, you can read it from the above link.

As I told in the previous post, your ads will still be displayed on sites that you haven’t specified in the Allowed Sites list. When people click on those ads, they are directed to the advertisers’ web site.

That said; let me remind you that you don’t get paid for these clicks. Obviously, because you are not held responsible for these ads anymore! The amount that the advertisers pay goes fully to Google.

Now let’s see how we can implement this for your account.
Log on to your Adsense account. Navigate to Adsense Setup > Allowed Sites.

Now you will see a heading - Choose your site settings:
You will have two options below this.
  • Allow any site to show ads for my account
  • Only allow certain sites to show ads for my account

By default Allow any site option would be selected. This would allow your ads to be displayed on any site under the sun that follow the Google ToS. This is what the villain was making use of to topple you!

You need to select the second option - Only allow certain sites. Now you will have a text box below it to enter URLs that you authorize. Enter the URLs of all sites that you have and want to display Google ads.

Example URLs
yoursite1.com - allows all pages across all sub domains
blog.yoursite1.com - allows only pages across the 'blog' sub domain

Once you are done, hit save and you are done!
Now you are held responsible only for ads that display on these sites.

What are the pros and cons of using Allowed Sites?

The story continues… pros - cons of using Allowed Sites and summary...
